The SOA Speaking at Taipei Actuarial Events

The Society of Actuaries (SOA) is proud to support the exchange of ideas with the global actuarial profession in Taipei this week at two actuarial events.

The SOA is a platinum sponsor at the 18th East Asian Actuarial Conference (EAAC). The event is organized by the Actuarial Institute of Chinese Taipei and will take place Oct. 12-15 in Taipei. The EAAC is comprised of 12 actuarial organizations with approximately 25,000 members. As platinum sponsor of the 2014 EAAC, the SOA will discuss new research and developments in the actuarial industry.

SOA president-elect Errol Cramer, FSA, will open the 2014 EAAC General Session, addressing an estimated audience of 750 actuaries and industrial professionals from around the globe. SOA managing director of research, Dale Hall, FSA, CERA, and Sharon Huang, FSA, of Milliman, will present SOA research on changes in the middle market for life insurance in China. Hall will also present a separate session comparing industry experience studies in the United States and Taiwan with Prof. Jack Yue or National Chengchi University.

At the International Actuarial Association (IAA) Fund Seminar in Taipei, Errol Cramer, in support of the IAA Fund objective to stimulate and support the development of the actuarial profession and to support developing local associations dedicated to advancing actuarial education, will offer insight into the SOA’s evolving process for entering, supporting and informing public policy.  Cramer offers this audience of developing actuarial organizations in the region case studies illustrating these three steps:

1) Establish guidelines for the identification of issues and research to supplement and initiate discourse;
2) Develop coalitions for collaboration on delivery of research; and
3) Execute communication strategies to effectively reach identified audiences with coordinated messaging.

Case studies presented include research conducted by the SOA and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) on the sustainability of the Canadian health care system and the Blue Ribbon Panel on Public Pension Plan Funding commissioned by the SOA.
