Be Savvy

by Mike Boot, Managing Director of Sections and Practice Areas The Society of Actuaries conducts a survey every other year to gauge employers' perceptions of actuaries.  Actuaries have historically scored very high compared to other occupations with respect to integrity, technical knowledge and understanding details.  However, the skill that is most often cited as a growth area for actuaries is communication. The SOA and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) are working together to address that concern and have partnered to offer a special seminar in Toronto on Business Savvy Skills, focused on communication.  The  1 ½ day seminar takes place December 7-8, 2011 and offers 12.6 SOA CPD credits.  The topics covered in this course include: persuasive communication using The Minto Pyramid Principle; negotiating skills; listening skills; and leadership communication skills.
