Connections, CPD, Chicago: The 2011 Annual Meeting approaches

Ben Wolzenski offers an overview of the SOA's 2011 Annual Meeting.

by Ben H. Wolzenski, Chairperson, 2011 Annual Meeting Program Committee

BenWolzenski As always, there are great opportunities for CPD credit, networking opportunities and renewed friendships at the SOA Annual Meeting & Exhibit. Join us for the 2011 meeting, October 16-19 at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers, on the downtown lakefront, with lots of things to see and do after the meeting.

There are plenty of new features this year. Based on attendee feedback, there will be 10 concurrent sessions—all 75 minutes in length. These will offer more than 100 session choices and the chance to gain up to 17.10 hours of CPD credit. Also for the first time, the Annual Meeting has its own application to be used on your mobile device (e.g., Android, BlackBerry, iPhone and iPad). This "app" will provide you with access to important features of the event, including session information, speakers, presentations and more—right in the palm of your hand. Free Wi-Fi will also be available in meeting rooms.

In addition, there are knowledge and networking opportunities at section breakfasts and receptions. And—the Presidential Luncheon, where the keynote speaker will be four-star General Stanley McChrystal, as well as the General Session, where the keynote speaker will be Dr. Nick Bontis, director of the Institute of Intellectual Capital Research, Inc.

Don’t forget—the meeting is in the heart of downtown Chicago, one block west of Lake Shore Drive, in walking distance to Navy Pier, the Magnificent Mile, Millennium Park, the Art Institute, the Loop District, shopping, dining and entertainment.

If you are ready to register, you can check out the new SOA Competency Framework Self-Assessment Tool to help select the sessions you want to attend. And if you cannot attend in person, remember that CPD credit will be available for six virtual sessions.

The 2011 Annual Meeting is right around the corner! I look forward to seeing many of you in Chicago.
