Get to Know the 2010-11 Board of Directors Candidates

by Mike McLaughlin, SOA President, 2009-2010

McLaughlin

SOA elections are about to begin, and your vote counts! As we all know, just a handful of votes can impact election results, so your participation is important.

Feel like you don’t have enough information to make an informed decision? The SOA makes a concerted effort to introduce you to each candidate for the Board of Directors so that you have the ability to make well-informed decisions when it comes to the future direction of our profession and the role the SOA will have in it.

President-Elect Candidates
To give you a better sense of who each candidate is and what their presidential platforms would be, a written bio is available for each President-Elect candidate, and a video of each is posted on the SOA website. In addition, the three candidates participated in a roundtable discussion, which provides additional perspective on each candidate and their responses to issues facing our profession.

And hopefully you’ve already had a chance to take a look at the e-mails from each of the president-elect candidates which were sent Aug. 5 and 6. If not, check your inbox!

Vice-President and Elected Board Member Candidates
Written bios are also available for vice-presidential candidates and elected board members. In addition, election candidate web pages have been redesigned this year to offer more information on each nominee.

More Information on the SOA Election Process
For questions on the elections, a number of resources are available to you, including:

You can also submit any questions you have about the election process to elections@soa.org.

I hope you will take some time out of your busy day to learn more about the candidates for the 2010 Board of Directors, and let your voice be heard in the future direction of the Society of Actuaries. I am excited about this group of candidates and the impact they will have on the future of our profession. Remember—every vote counts!

Elections open Aug. 9 and close on Sept. 3.
